About Us

Purdy Stitches.com is the outgrowth of our retail shop - The Monogram Shoppe located in Anderson, SC. We have been in business since 1984. Peggy Purdy (that’s me) and Nellie Brown (my Mom) are the owners of the current shop operating 4 embroidery heads. Combined we have over 46 years of embroidery experience.

We can embroider many different items – shirts, jackets, caps, baby items, bags, linens, towels, pillow shams, handkerchiefs, shower curtains, etc. Personalization is our specialty. We have embroidered thousands of custom monograms on many items over the years. Custom logos can be created by digitizing your design then embroidering it on garments of your choice to enhance your business. Interior decorators make use our services to create one-of-a-kind items for their clients. Let us work with you to create your custom look also, whether it is for your home, bedroom, baby’s room or business.

How We Began

Nellie Brown, my Mom, began embroidering my clothes “free handed” on a custom built Pfaff sewing machine when I was in junior high school. Friends starting asking about the beautiful monograms on my sweaters and I would reply, “My mom did it!” Before she realized it Mom had a very busy second job. She retired from doing the custom monogramming after I finished my college education.

I earned a master’s degree in music education while teaching music in Anderson School District #3. After having two children, I knew it was time for a change. “Mom can I borrow your monogram machine?” Now she knew how much practice it would take before I would gain enough skill to do monogramming for the public free handed, but she didn’t discourage me. Instead she did some research and found an automatic machine which was still rather new technology. A single head Melco machine was purchased and a part-time endeavor for me was born. My purpose was to earn some “extra Christmas spending money” that year (1984). Before long I realized that this would not be just part-time, but a full-time job.

With Jamie (my daughter) married and Chris (my son) graduated from college, Tommy, (my husband), Nellie & I decided we were ready for the next step – a website. That’s how PurdyStitches.com was born!

Origin of our Name

The name PurdyStitches.com has special meaning for us. My name happens to be Peggy Purdy. Ever since I married my husband Tommy I’ve had lots of fun with my name. As a music teacher in public schools I heard so many times “I know why your name is Mrs. Purdy – because you’re pretty.” What a nice compliment (even after 8+ years of hearing sweet 1st graders “discover” my name). When we decided to take the plunge and develop a website we wanted to be a bit more creative with a name. After much research we chose PurdyStitches.com. We believe it is just perfect. We can provide you with very many pretty things!!! We hope you like our name and remember it!
